A Survey in 34 Countries

In 1981 the EVS survey was conducted in nine countries and in 1999 in 34 countries. Retaken every nine years, the EVS survey covers a wide diversity of themes: family, work, economics, politics, religion, social relations. Data is collected by polling, with at least 1000 interviews per country, which last one hour minimum, since values can only be measured by an accumulation of indicators. In 1999 many questions from the previous surveys were included again in order to follow closely changes in public opinion. One of the major challenges of the EVS project is the formulation of questions which will have the same sense everywhere.
