in brief

All roads lead to Rome...

This famous saying is actually something that has already been proven by physicists;  but for them, the question is how long will it take to get there? Researchers from CNRS have for the first time elaborated a theory that evaluates the time it takes to get to a given location by taking random directions at every crossroad.1 Tested on various models of statistical physics, the theory gives comparable results to numerical ones. This has numerous applications like determining the reaction time of biomolecules, the propagation of epidemics, or even how animals search for food.
